SOME stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State have raised the alarm over alleged plans by of the governorship aspirants of the party to compromise members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and the Senator Jim Nwobodo-led election committee ahead of the party’s primaries.
A group in the party led by Chief Walter Okoli, who vowed to resist such a move, urged the National Executive Council (NEC) and the leadership of the party to look into the matter before it was too late.
According to the group, some governorship aspirants, who he did not name, had become desperate over the Anambra election.
There are 14 aspirants from the three senatorial zones of the state jostling for the ticket of the party.
The group also dismissed media reports that three aspirants had been picked for the ticket, arguing that some aspirants had become afraid of free, fair and credible primaries and were, therefore, looking for ways to cut corners to achieve underserved victory during the party’s primaries.
Okoli said: “Our forum finds this disgusting, fraudulent and against every good thing APC stands for, and we are poised to expose every single detail of this plot as well as the characters involved in the alleged gratification.
“The party members are being mobilized to resist any attempt to falsify the delegate’s list with the aim of creating an undue advantage for some aspirants.
“It is also seriously being rumoured that some desperate aspirants are attempting to compromise the chairman of the Anambra State electoral committee, Dr. Jim Nwobodo, who is a former governor of old Anambra State, a former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a distinguished senator, which we find difficult to believe.
“We do not believe that the revered Chief Nwobodo will allow such a thing to happen as everybody in the South East holds him in high esteem. We want to believe that his name is being dropped by some desperadoes.
“We, the APC stakeholders’ forum, advise all aspirants to go to the party delegates to canvass for votes and support, instead of going through the back door to seek evil and dangerous short cut to the party ticket.”
