
THE Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the 104 Federal Unity Colleges have appealed to the federal government to absorb its 8,000 tutorial and non-tutorial staff currently under the payroll of the PTA of various unity colleges.
The appeal was contained in a communiqué jointly signed by the outgoing national Secretary and Board of Trustees Secretary of the association, Barr. Jerry Nwani and Bob Okoridem, and made available to newsmen in Lafia.
The communiqué was released shortly after the association’s triennial delegate’s congress of National Association of Parents of Federal Unity Schools (NAPAFUSS) also known as National Association of Parent and Teachers of Federal Government Colleges (NAPTAFEGC) held at Ibadan, Oyo state recently.
According to the communique, the absorption of the staff would not only improve on the standard of education in unity colleges but also improve on the standard of living of the affected staff.
It expressed concern over the poor quality of education, paucity of tutorial staff, calling on the Minister of Education and other relevant agencies of government to do the needful in order to improve on the standard of education.
”The PTA also made an appealed to stakeholders in the education sector, philanthropists and both national and international organizations to partner with their association in order to improve on facilities in the federal unity colleges”, the communique stated.
It also called on the federal ministry of education to restore the original policy and vision of establishing federal unity colleges as a means of fostering unity, understanding of the culture of other parts of the country.

The communique also stated that at the end of the delegate’s congress of the association, Engr. Kefas Kaura was elected as the National Chairman, Hon. Owoibia Oyinkro as 1st National Vice president, comrade Bello O. Emmanuel as Secretary-General, Prof. G.A.N Ama as treasurer.
Others are Mr Aiyedun Solomon as Asst. Secretary, Hon. Barth O. Olughu as Financial Secretary and Alhaji Mustapha Baibe Munguno as Ex-officio ii.
