Super Eagles vice captain Ogenyi Onazi, has picked Italy as his preferred European country to play in a friendly ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Russia next year.
Onazi who plies his professional trade with Trabzonspor of Turkey also assured Nigerians that the Eagles would be ready to take on their Group D opponents given adequate preparations for the World Cup .
The former S.S Lazio player tasked the five African representatives Nigeria, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt to do the continent proud, even as he sought divine favor for the Eagles.
“Playing against a top footballing nation like the Italians would be a very good opportunity to prepare the Eagles for the World Cup.
“They might not have qualified, I still believe they would put us in proper shape as all hands are on deck to ensure we have a good showing in Russia when the tournament begins.
“Nothing good comes easy. Now that we know our group, we will prepare mentally, physically and tactically. It is time for Africa to make the difference. With God on our side nothing is impossible,” Onazi told Brila FM .
Onazi was a member of Nigeria’s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and started in all four games as Nigeria was eliminated by France in the round of 16.
The World Cup draw which was held at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, saw the Eagles drawn in Group D along with Argentina, debutant Iceland and Croatia.
It will be the fifth time Nigeria and Argentina will clash at the World Cup, while they face Croatia and Iceland for the very first time at the senior level.
