Mo Salah will not face prosecution after Liverpool reported him to the police after he appeared to use his mobile phone while driving in August.

Footage posted online appeared to show Salah using his phone at the wheel of his Mercedes, which was surrounded by children, after the 4-0 win over West Ham at Anfield. The Egypt international had scored the opening goal of the game.

Liverpool took the unprecedented step of reporting Salah to the police themselves after being made aware of the Facebook footage the day after the game.

They said at the time: ‘The club, after discussion with the player, have made Merseyside Police aware of the footage and the circumstances surrounding its capture.

‘We have spoken to the player also and will deal with any follow-up internally. Neither the club or player will be making any further comment on this matter.’

On Thursday, Merseyside Police said: ‘We can confirm a 26-year-old man was spoken to following an incident on Arkles Lane in Liverpool on Sunday, August 12, 2018.

‘Enquiries have taken place and there is insufficient evidence to support a prosecution and as such no further action will be taken.

‘The man has been spoken to by officers and given advice and guidance around mobile phone use in a vehicle.’
Salah has made a slow start to the season by his high standards, scoring just three times in 11 matches in all competitions.
