Samsung Heavy Industries has contracted AfrikDelta Marine Limited, a leading Nigerian supplier of marine services and a member of Jagal Energy for the services of Egina FPSO tow and turning.
A statement from the firm indicated that the operation included the use of five of ADML’s Nigerian flagged tug boats with Nigerian crew to tow and support Total’s Egina Floating Production Storage and Offloading facility now moored in the Lagos harbour.
The statement read in part, “The operation was the culmination of significant planning and engineering that lasted over 12 months and entailed the special simulation training of the ADML’s Nigerian crew overseas to enhance their expertise.
“Some of the vessels were already on other operations with ExxonMobil and Chevron. The logistics management from ExxonMobil and Chevron contributed to the success of the operation by temporarily releasing the vessels to perform the Egina FPSO towage.
“This is another major milestone in the Nigerian maritime industry and a clear demonstration of progress in Nigerian Content Development.”
