Saraki, senators visit Dino Melaye

The Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki along with other senators have stormed the national hospital where the senator representing Kogi west constituency, Dino Melaye is held custody by the Nigerian Police.

Recall that the embattled senator (Melaye) was re-arrested yesterday after he allegedly escaped the police. Reports have it that he injured himself after jumping off the hilux and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

However, after sitting with senators on Wednesday, Saraki said that they resolved to come and see how their colleague is doing.

In his words, “These actions whether we want to admit it or not is a threat to this democracy we are all fighting for. The excesses must be contained in the interest of all of us including the people we are here to serve,

“Today, the Senate resolved to invite the IGP of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to brief the plenary in the Committee of the Whole, over the recent killings in Benue, and the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye.

On the recent killings in Benue:

“This is also about Law & Order, and as such, we must all condemn this action. For the last 48hrs, I have not been able to reach the IG of Police, we cannot talk about security without collaboration with the Legislature.

On Dino’s issue:

“For the past 24 hours we have not been able to know the state of things. He is under intensive care and stable for now.

“He said he has not eaten for the past 24 hours and we are trying to resolve that”, he finally said.
