A 27-year-old school drop-out, Owolabi Ogunwande, who allegedly attempted to commit suicide by trying to hang himself at the police cell on Monday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Ogunwande of no fixed address is facing a two-count charge bordering on attempted suicide.

He pleaded guilty to the charge brought against him.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Cyriacus Osuji told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence between June 28 and July 2, at 1:30 p.m, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, at Toll Gate, Lekki Phase1 and Maroko Station, Lagos.

Osuji said the defendant allegedly attempted to commit suicide by trying to hang himself on the neck with a rope.

He said that the accused also attempted to commit suicide by trying to hang himself with a rope, on July 2, inside police cell, at 11:30 am, at Maroko Police Station, Lekki Phase 1 in Lagos.

“The defendant attempted to hang himself with a rope at the toll gate and was rescued by a man simply called Omotayo.

“The defendant attempted to kill himself the second time today inside police cell when he was asked, he said he was tired of life,’’ Osuji said.

The offence contravened Section 235 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr Aro Lambo, adjourned the case until July 3, for review of facts.
