Seven female governorship candidates listed in Kano, Niger states

women, female governorship candidatesNO fewer than seven female governorship candidates have been listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano and Bauchi states to slug it out with their male counterparts in the 2019 elections.

Four of the women had their names pasted on the wall of Kano INEC office, while the remaining three were listed in Bauchi.

The four Kano women eyeing the job of incumbent Governor Abdulai Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are:  Safiya Salisu Abdul of the National Unity Party (NUP); Fatima Isa, Restoration Party of Nigeria (RPN); Amina Garba, National Action Council (NAC); and Halima Ahmed of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

The three females out of the 36 candidates jostling to unseat Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State are: Aishat  Mahmud — C.A; Mrs Phoebe Edwin Yarima  — DMPP; Abdulsalam Aisha — (no party indicated).

More confusion in Rivers APC as INEC lists Cole guber candidate

The confusion over the fate of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) participation in the 2019 elections continued at the weekend with the display Tonye Cole as the governorship candidate of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The commission on Friday published the documents of Cole, alongside his running mate, Victor Giadom, among candidates representing other political parties, including incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike who also retained his deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo, under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

INEC also published other nominees of the Amaechi’s APC faction for other elective offices in the coming elections who together with Cole and Giadom are products of the indirect primary election adopted by the Rivers APC in choosing its candidates.

However, there has been confusion in APC in Rivers State, following the legal tussle over the right candidates.


27 candidates challenge Bauchi gov

Going by the list released by INEC, a total of 27 candidates are challenging the incumbent Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar for the gubernatorial seat in the 2019 general election.

According to the list, Mohammed Abubakar who is running for reelection with his deputy, Audu Sule Katagum, will face a stiff competition from the candidate of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Bala Abdulkadir and his running mate, Senator Baba Tela, as well as the duo of Shuaibu Adamu Ahmed and his running mate, Adamu Umar Ahmed, who are the standardbearers of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as well as Mohammed Ali Pate and Aliyu Ladan Mohammed are the candidates of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).


Ogun: Soluade confirmed as MAJA Party’s gov candidate

Former deputy governorship candidate of the Progressive People Alliance (PPA), in the 2007 election, Chief Femi Soluade, has formally emerged as the candidate of .Mass Action Joint Alliance (MAJA) Party.

Soluade, who is also a former state Hospital Management Board member, is the pioneer chairman of the resuscitated Unity Party of Nigeria in Ogun State.


APC parleying with aggrieved members in Lagos 

The list of candidates for governorship and the state Houses of Assembly was released on Friday by INEC throughout the the federation, with Lagos figure showing that a total of 41 will contest the governorship seat and 589 candidates will stand for Assembly from across the registered parties in the state.

But few days to the release of the document, the Lagos State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had commenced vigorously the reconciliation exercise, which it has been doing on senatorial basis and also using any available opportunity or fora to highlight as part of its effort to reconcile all the aggrieved members, who felt short-changed in the party primaries conducted in the state to choose the candidates that would stand the 2019 general election.

Also, The Independent National Electoral Commission{ INEC) has released names of about 36 governorship candidates in Niger State.

The  gubernatorial candudates include  33 males and three females, while topmost on the list is the incumbent Governor Abubakar Sani Bello,  on the platform of the APC and was closely followed by his opponent in the PDP, Mr. Umar Mohammed Nasko, including, Mr. Joshua Nuhu Bawa, PhD, representing All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
