Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima has condoled with the families of those killed during the ambush on his convoy in the central part of the state Tuesday evening.

Shettima in a statement by his spokesman, Isa Gusau, said he was deeply saddened by the incident he described as “unfortunate.”

“Governor Shettima mourns, with the deepest thoughts and heartfelt condolences, the demise of some fellow citizens, brothers, associates and loyal supporters following an unfortunate ambush of some vehicles in his convoy by suspected insurgents on Tuesday evening along the road to Gamboru, headquarters of Ngala local government area,” he said in the statement.

The governor confirmed three persons were killed, even as he said he has ordered “full security briefing to get accurate information on the incident.”

He said the Boko Haram attack was mainly aimed to attract local and international media attention to “sustain propaganda strategy and to instil fear in citizens and gallant troops.”

The governor said he would continue to collaborate with security agencies and volunteers to ensure Boko Haram was defeated and end insurgency in the area.

Shettima’s convoy was attacked by Boko Haram terrorists Tuesday evening at Logomani village, along Dikwa-Gamboru road while on a campaign trip ahead of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
