The Forum of Local Government Youth Leaders, Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday condemned the invasion and continued siege of the Abuja residence of the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye.
The forum in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, the state capital, and signed by the Youth Leader, Kabba-Bunu local government area, PDP, Mr Kayode Eseyin, said the move was aimed at silencing opposition in the country.
The statement said apart from attempting to silence Melaye, the action of the police was a threat to his life
It read: “Our attention has been drawn to the invasion and continuous siege on the Abuja residence of Senator Dino Melaye, representing the good people of Kogi West and our party’s Presidential Campaign Director of Civil Society and NGO’s by men of the Nigeria Police.
“We see this desperate act of the Federal Government acting through the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris as a serious threat to the life of Senator Dino Melaye who prior to this invasion raised the alarm of a plan to arrest and inject him to death, a claim Nigeria Force Public Relation Officer denied.
“Nigerians know for a fact that Senator Dino Melaye has consistently spoken against tyranny, bad governance and ineptitude of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government. This is evidenced by the numerous interviews, videos, tweets and posts he has been putting out over the years.
Eseyin also accused Buhari of targeting opposition leaders ahead of the 2019 general election by using the Nigerian Police to intimidate and keep them in Police cell till after election on frivolous charges.
“However, we advise them to desist from this act and channel their energies into more pressing national issues, especially the security of the lives and properties of Nigerians in the North East in particular and Nigeria in general,” said the PDP youth leader.
