They also endorsed the Governor of Enugu State, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Deputy Denate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his Federal House of Representatives counterpart, Dr. Okey Ibeabuchi for second term in office stating that they have recorded commendable achievements in their first terms in office.
The group, in a statement signed by Chief Eugene Ibeaham, stated that for equity, fairness and progress to exist in the areas, all those that have completed two terms in office should step down for others to take their turn. “The party in power in our area, PDP, has laid down the rotational procedure from one local government area to the other so that every section will be happy and not feel alienated.
“Greater Awgu is made up of three local government areas. That is Oji, Awgu and Aninri local government areas. Formerly, these three areas were one in Awgu Local Government before it was divided into three. We are brothers and sisters and that is why we are sitting under one federal constituency both in the Senate and House of Representatives today.
“Firstly, we wish to thank our hard working governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his good work and we also wholeheartedly endorse him for a second term in office. We also endorse both the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his counterpart at the House of Representatives, Dr. Okey Ibeabuchi for second term without reservations.
“Our candid advice to all our sons and daughters who have completed two terms in office is to kindly give way for others. The ruling party in the area has laid down rotational arrangement and it should be strictly adhered to so that every section of our area will be happy and it will not lead to rancour and bitterness.”
Speaking further on plans to ensure a free and fair election in the area, the group advised all the politicians to play the game according to the laid down rules in order to avoid trouble. “We hold the key to the success of every contestant at the elections. Anybody that tries to rig election in our area will definitely have a sad story to tell. Politicians should play the game with brotherly love and it should not be seen as a do or die affair,” he stated.
