Suleiman joins Flour Mills as non-executive director

The Board of Directors of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc has announced the appointment of Mrs. Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman as an independent non-executive director of the company effective from March 8, 2017.

A statement by FMN Plc on Tuesday described Suleiman, who is presently an independent non-executive director of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, as an experienced professional in corporate business development.

According to it, Suleiman is an amazon in the Nigerian political sphere and widely known for her advocacy for the education of the girl-child and women development.

It added that Suleiman obtained a Bachelor of Law (Hons) degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, in 1981 and a Master of Law degree with distinction in Multinational Enterprise and Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1987.

She commenced her professional career as a state counsel with the Ministry of Justice, Sokoto in 1981 and later worked with Continental Merchant Bank from 1988 to 1996 and NAL Merchant Bank from 1996 to 1997.

The statement read in part, “She also worked as a secretary and legal adviser for the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria. She later became the secretary and director of legal services at the Securities and Exchange Commission between 2001 and 2008.

“She has worked in many different sectors of the Nigerian government during the past 10 years. She was appointed as the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development in 2008 and went on to become the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in 2010.

“In February 2012, Suleiman was appointed the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and security, Economic Community of West African States’ Commission and completed her tenure at the end of April 2016.”
