The Kaduna State Police Command has gunned down two suspected killers of four policemen in Jankasa, Rigasa area of Kaduna State.

The policemen, killed on August 11, 2018, were part of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Rapid Response Team.

They were ambushed and killed by suspected kidnappers shortly after the team had arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction of a Muslim cleric, Sheik Ahmad Algarkawy.

On Thursday, the police paraded the suspected killers.

The acting Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Ahmed Kontagora, explained that the IGP Special Tactical Squad, in a joint operation with operatives of Operation Yaki, raided an armed robbers/kidnappers hideout along Sabon Birni village in Igabi Local Government Area on August 16.

Kontagora said after a fierce gun battle, two suspected bandits were fatally injured and rushed to Barau Dikko Hospital, Kaduna, for treatment but were confirmed dead on arrival.

“After the recent ambush of the IGP IRT operatives at Jankasa village of Rigasa Igabi LGA, we have embarked on intensive manhunt of the perpetrators of that incident and other cases of crime within the command with a view to arresting and bringing all the culprits to book,” he added.

He listed items recovered from the raid to include one AK47 rifle and five rounds of live ammunition.

He said investigation by the police revealed that the hoodlums belonged to a gang of criminals terrorising Birnin-Gwari area.

The investigation, he said, further revealed that the gang was responsible for the killing of one Inspector Felix Yohanna, who was attached to Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The said Inspector Yohanna was killed last year in the Walawa forest.

The police boss added, “Similarly, the command`s Anti-Kidnapping and FSARS operatives as well as the Special Investigation Bureau have also recorded additional successes in arresting the following suspected criminals and made recoveries of exhibits during the period under review.

“They include seven suspected kidnappers, eight suspected armed robbers, four suspected notorious fraudsters and three suspected shop breakers. We have recovered three AK47 rifles, and three magazines with 20 rounds of ammunition.

“Two vehicles – a Volkswagen Golf with Registration No. ES904FST, and a Toyota Corolla with Registration No. RBC04MQ, both blue colour, were also recovered,” Kotangora added.

He said the suspects had made useful statements and would be soon be arraigned in court, following the conclusion of investigation.
