Olaide Oyelude, Katsina

The police in Katsina are currently interrogating two members of a syndicate of alleged vehicle snatchers.

The suspects allegedly added sedatives to the drinks of their victims before snatching their trucks.

The suspects, Murtala Yahaya of Maigandi village, Funtua Local Government Area of  Katsina State; and Adekunle Adegbola of Kaduna Road Junction, Suleja, Niger State, were arrested at Lambata, Niger State.

They had reportedly travelled to the state to dispose off a recently snatched heavy duty vehicle valued at N8m when they were apprehended.

The spokesman for Katsina Police Command, Gambo Isah, confirmed the development on Thursday, adding that the suspects were still being interrogated with a view to arresting other members.

Isah revealed in a statement that the suspects dispossessed the driver of his truck by adding sedatives to his drink which made the victim to sleep off while they went away with his vehicle.

It said, “On July 6 at about 10:00hrs, the syndicate chattered a truck, Man diesel valued N8m driven by one Halilu Aliyu of the Dutsinma LGA of Katsina State and his conductor, one Kabiru Musa of the same address,  to bring some trips of sand.

“They, however, ended up poisoning their drinks with sedatives and thereby snatched the truck.

“Nemesis caught up with Yahaya and  Adegbola when they were arrested by a police patrol team at Lambata, Niger State with the said truck. Effort is in top gear to arrest other members of the syndicate.”

The police added that investigation into the incident was ongoing.
