Tax system needs monitoring for economic growth

The Governing Board of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, CITN Academy has been tasked to effectively carry out its monitoring and supervision duties in order to have an effective tax system to boost the nation’s revenue influx.



Dr. Cyril Ikemefuna Ede, CITN president at the inauguration of members of Academy board said the Board was  to fulfill the mandate of the Academy to be the reference point for professional development and research on taxation in Africa and beyond through the enthronement of professional competency of the tax profession in Nigeria, through up-to-date tax education.

According to Dr Ede, “ The Board as governing authority of the Academy is charged to maintain custody, control and disposition of all the property and finances of the Academy; including to manage and superintend the affairs of the Academy, in order to promote the interests, objects and purposes of the Academy, which will in turn improve tax system in country.

“I charged you to fulfill the mandate of the Academy to be the reference Academy for professional development and research on taxation in Africa and beyond. This is in line with the mission to raise the professional competency of the tax profession in Nigeria, through up-to-date tax education.” CITN chairman said.

Meanwhile, composition of the Governing Board drawn from the public and private sectors included: representatives of Ministries of Finance and Education; Federal Inland Revenue Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Tertiary Education Trust Fund as well as National Board for Technical Education, and representative of Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, etc.
