Three persons were feared dead on Thursday in another renewed bloodletting between two suspected rival cults in Ijebu-Igbo, in the Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Sources in the town told PUNCH Metro that while two of the victims were killed at the Ojowo section of the town, another victim, identified only as Mr. Owolabi, was reportedly hacked to death at a motor park around 4am.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a telephone interview, said one person was found dead in a location within the town, adding that the deceased had machete cuts.

The latest killings bring the number of casualties in cult-related violence in Ijebu-Igbo to nine in the last five weeks.

In the first week of April, four persons, including a police inspector, were killed in a clash between a cult and people suspected to be members of the Oodua People’s Congress.

Thirty four suspects were arraigned before an Ijebu-Igbo Magistrate’s Court in connection with the clash.

The suspects had been remanded in prison pending hearing of the case on the adjourned date, June 6, 2018.
