UNILORIN concludes 3-day orientation programme for fresh students

THE management of the University of Ilorin has just concluded its orientation programme for fresh students. The three days event which spanned from 27th February to 1st March was held at the university auditorium and attended by relevant stakeholders in the university community.

 

The final episode featured several insightful presentations designed to ensure student compliance with rules and regulations, safety, utility of public infrastructure, and their overall success during the period of their degree programmes.

As the norm, the event is an annual flagship programme organised by the Student Affairs Unit of the university with a primary focus on acquainting fresh students with the Dos and Don’ts of the university.

In his remark, the Sub Dean, Student Affairs, Dr Alex Akanmu, spoke on acceptable conducts in the university. He emphasized the importance of eschewing vices and imbibing self-discipline and cited instances of disciplinary actions taken against defaulting students. He concluded his talk by saying, “we train you both in character and in learning”.

The august gathering was graced by the Chief Imam of the university, Prof N.S. Abdulsalam; Prof Dusaro I.A. of Guidance and Counseling Department; the Chairman, Anti-Corruption Unit, Prof Bello; Chairperson, Dress Code Committee, Faculty of Law, Prof (Mrs) Abdulraheem; the Clinic Director, Dr R.A. Odunola; and the Manager, Skye Bank (UNILORIN branch), Mr Samson Ajayi and others.

In attestation of the benefits of the event, participants expressed their views accordingly. Fathia, of the department of Biochemistry, said the presentations were “educative and interesting”. She further expressed happiness for being offered admission into the university of her dream.

Zulaykah Mahmud of Islamic Studies department, said she was “happy and proud being a UNILORIN student”. Olatunji Michael of Zoology department, said he felt “great being admitted to the school”.

The event ended with the melodious tune of the university anthem.
