UPU urged to speak up on xenophobic attacks in South Africa

THE Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, led by Olorogun Moses Taiga, has been urged to denounce the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, most of whom are of Urhobo extraction.

Giving the charge, yesterday, in a statement, Chief David Ukueku, a former UPU President-General in Ghana,  said: “The Urhobo community residing in various parts of South Africa have fallen victims to the attacks on foreigners, particularly Nigerians, residing in that country.

“While waiting for the Nigerian government to take a decisive action in the matter, the Urhobo nation, which is older than the Nigerian state, should also take the bull by the horns in protecting the lives of its citizens residing in South Africa.”
