David Umahi of Ebonyi State.

Former Deputy National President, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Chief Abia Onyike, yesterday, announced his intention to contest the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat in the 2019 general election.

Onyike, who was the Director of Media and Publicity, Divine Mandate Organisation, the campaign body of Governor Dave Umahi in the 2015 general election, said his experience in politics and the media would distinguish from others eyeing the seat.

He is seeking to replace Chief Sonni Ogbuorji, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former Commissioner for Information and Personal Adviser to former Governor Elechi on Media said he would represent the people of his zone effectively, if voted. He also promised to initiate bills to improve the welfare of journalists.
