FEMI MAKINDE

The governorship candidate of the Restoration Party of Nigeria, Mrs Mercy Ayodele, said although the election was peaceful, it was characterised by vote buying by politicians who were desperate to buy their ways into power.

She alleged that those who paid voters forced them to oaths to ensure they voted as agreed.

Ayodele, who is one of the two female governorship candidates that contested the poll, scored six votes in Unit 3 Ward 2 in Ipetu Ile while Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 94 votes to beat the APC candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, who scored 55 votes.

The candidates of the Social Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, polled 15 votes and the candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Moshood Adeoti scored seven votes.

Ayodele told our correspondent that despite the effort by INEC to curb vote-buying, some politicians went ahead to induce voters with money.

She said those who allegedly gave money to voters made them swear an oath to vote for the candidate for whom they were given money to vote.

He said, “Despite the effort to stop vote-buying, there is still buying of vote secretly here. They gave voters N2,000 secretly and made them swear an oath with iron.”
