Sen. Owie

By Alemma-Ozioruva Aliu

BENIN CITY— FORMER Chief Whip of the Senate and now National Leader of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, Senator Roland Owie says the recent coalition of about 30 political parties with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) known as Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, to rout the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was a coalition of deceit that would not work.

Speaking in Auchi, Etsako West local government area of Edo State where he received members of the Nigeria Intervention Movement into the Action Democratic Party, ADP, and unveiling of the party’s office in the area made possible by a senatorial aspirant, Erasmus Ikhide, Owie said the PDP has failed Nigeria and any coalition with it would also fail.

“We refused to be in the coalition because the moment you move into a lepers colony, you become a leper. For 16 years, we could not construct the  Niger Bridge and the same people are coming to tell you we will be better let us work together, it is not right and it will not work. We said we are the alternative party, let God and Nigerians give us a chance to develop this nation. Time is not on the side of Nigeria.

“Quite frankly, how can a man who could not hold his farm for 16 years, he farmed and ate all the yam then say  that you should come and farm then say, what will happen? The whole farm will go to him.”

He said the recent defection in the National Assembly was as a result of desperation for return ticket by the defectors.

On his part, Ikhide said the APC has not been able to deliver on its electioneering campaign promises and that the ADP has come to right the wrongs of successive governments in the country.
