THE President, Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday night, said he kept mum over the viral bribery video of the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, where he was shown receiving a bribe from contractors executing projects in the State because it was being handled at the State level.

He said this is because the issue was not only being addressed at the State House of Assembly but also at the Court, hence there was no need for interference or comment.

Buhari spoke in Abuja at The Candidates chat organised by the Dariamedia and Nigerian Television Authority NTA, with support from the MacArthur Foundation.

“The State Assembly has taken it and they have gone to court so I decided that I will not talk about it and I know that the state assembly constitutionally could have dealt with it.

“….I am honestly completely overwhelmed, but the system has given me some relief, it is in the court, it is in the State assembly so let them as much as possible deal with it,” he said.

While fielding questions from the show’s Moderator, Kadaria Ahmed, he debunks claims that he was seen with the Governor during his campaigns saying he was yet to visit the State as purported.

He argued that the purported video may have been subject to technological manipulations saying; “I will defend myself on that, I have not gone to Kano yet, I went to Kogi today but then the clip somebody brought to me of the Governor of Kano State receiving dollars, smiling and putting it into his pocket I don’t know the extent of technology used and I can’t answer it.

“As I told you, I have seen the clip, I don’t know how much technology was used but can Ganduje fail to trust somebody to get the money for him, that he took it directly himself smiling.”

The President who declined to make further comments on the issue, however, expressed hope that the matter would have been sorted by the court and State Assembly by the time he visits the State on his re-election campaign.

“This clip has received a lot of publicity and I hope that by the time I go on my campaign for reelection, there would be an answer from the court or State assembly in Kano State.
