Why I’m passionate about Nigerian Carnival in US —Baba Oloju

As this year’s edition of the Nigerian Carnival in Maryland, United States (US) gathers momentum, one of its committed patrons, Alhaji Abdulai Akeem, otherwise known as Baba Oloju, has expressed his readiness and determination to lead the Nigerian contingent to this year’s event.

Baba Oloju, who has been an active participant at the yearly carnival over the years informed R that as a well known cultural ambassador, he was excited to be part of any carnival that was capable of not only promoting the Yoruba culture but one that also has the ability to preserve it.

Oloju said his traditional role at the carnival attracts him to the event every  year, adding that “As a cultural ambassador, I am always having roles to  perform. There is nowhere in Yoruba land where cultural festivities are taking place that I will not be invited,” he said.

The carnival, which seeks to promote the Nigerian culture and tradition beyond  the shores of Africa, in its first year, recorded over 300 audiences and it is believed the event this year is expected to be witnessed by more than 5000 spectators from around the world.

Speaking on how he intends to promote the Nigerian culture at the carnival, Oloju who is also the founder of Jawesola Baba Oloju worldwide limited disclosed that his patriotic cultural trip to the US will further strengthen the bond among Nigerians in the Diaspora.

“As an expert in herbal medication, there is no other thing that can bring Nigerians together than culture and entertainment. We are bringing Nigerians together through culture and make them cherish their culture like the Chinese and other culturally-inclined countries.

“Personally, I am a lover of culture. Yoruba and African culture always make me happy. Americans, Asians and the rest have their various cultures, which they promote globally. I believe that every avenue to promote our culture must be explored”, he said.
