Shuaibu Rabi, One of the suspected murderer of immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd) said he was killed during a robbery attack.
Badeh was murdered in his car on Tuesday, December 18 while returning from his farm.
The suspect during the confession with the Police said he and his brother got an hint off to rob Badeh from one Churuma who they met at a market.
The suspect said Churuma told them an “old soldier wanted to buy a parcel of land but would be buying the land in cash.”
He further stated that they mapped out their plans on how they will trail Badeh and collect the money with him.
Rabi said the plan was to block Badeh and collect the money but while they were at it the deceased attempted to knock down churuma with his car.
“He attempted to hit Churuma with his car but Churuma dodged to the side and then opened fire on him. After, we opened the car and found a bag of money and went with it,” the suspect said.
But prior to the arrest of the suspect, there were speculations that Badeh was assassinated because he was the only one killed during the attack.
Badeh’s friend, who was in the vehicle with him was abducted by the hoodlums but released after his family paid a ransom reportedly running into millions of naira.
The former CDS’ four military guards, who provided security, were said to have been a few kilometres away when the attack took place.
They were subsequently detained and questioned by investigators.
At the time of his death, Badeh was being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly diverting N3bn from the accounts of the air force.
Badeh’s widow, Mary Iya Badeh, and his two sons, Alex (jnr) and Kam, all on EFCC watch list, had been in the United States since 2016.
The former CDS had forfeited money and choice properties to the Federal Government before his death.
