senate had resolved to set campaign spending limits for senatorial elections at N250 million and N100 million for House of Representatives
Duke of Somolu (DOS) support group has emerged to seek the democratisation of campaign funding, while ensuring a level-playing ground for all candidates.
The senate had resolved to set campaign spending limits for senatorial elections at N250 million and N100 million for House of Representatives, while an individual can only donate N1 million and corporate organisation N2 million to a presidential candidate.
Also, N1 billion was pegged as limit to what a presidential candidate should spend.
According the promoters, the initiative is an online structure that would transparently seek to attract retail campaign funding from the massive potential donor community online and then direct the funds towards credible aspirants
“These funds would go to all aspirants, depending on the choice of the donor,” they said.
Spokesman of the group, Joseph Edgar, said that the structure was such that interested candidates could upload their details on the platform for interested donors to peruse.
