The Nigeria Rowing Canoe and Sailing Federation, on Monday said that two of its athletes have qualified for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) slated to hold in Argentina in October.
The federation Secretary, Bunmi Oluode said from Spain that the athletes qualified through the World Canoe Championships in Barcelona, which served as qualification for the games.
She disclosed that Blessing Amusar qualified for women’s kayak while Ayomide Bello qualified for the Women’s canoe event at the qualification championship, which held from April 6 to April 15.
Oluode added that Amusar is currently ranked 3rd in kayak sprint in Africa, and also number two in kayak slalom in the continent, while Bello is ranked number one in canoe sprint in Africa and also number one in canoe slalom in Africa.
“This is a good news for Nigeria and the federation because two of our athletes will be part of the YOG later this year, after participating and qualifying at the Canoe World Championship in Spain.
“We want to thank our sponsors and the Sports Ministry for supporting the federation in achieving the feat, “she said.
Oluode said that the body would commence early preparations to ensure a good outing at the Youth Olympic Games.
