The finalists of the 2019 edition of the Delta State principals Cup football competition -Obule Integrated School, Sapele and Boys Secondary School, Obiaruku- have intensified their preparation for the final day.
Organisers of the annual tournament at the weekend said the finalists were eager to clinch the ultimate trophy of the event sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc.
This edition, the third in the series, started in October 2018 with all the schools in the 25 Local Governments in the state competing for honours.
Shortly before the General Elections, the competition was on break after Obule Integrated School, Sapele and Boys Secondary School, Obiaruku qualified for the final.
To qualify for the final, Obule defeated Ekpan Secondary School 8-7 after penalty shootout in the keenly contested semifinal match while Boys Secondary School also defeated Comprehensive Secondary School 4-3 after penalty shoot-out. Full time score was 1-1.
Head of the organising team, Tony Pemu, at the weekend said that the date for the final will be revealed later this week.
“We are going to decide this week when the final will take place based on the decision of the Local Organising Committee and the availability of the Governor.
“As organisers we are ready, but the forthcoming games of the Super Eagles and the U-23 team are bound to affect us since the final of our competition is also slated for the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
