NIGERIA in the context of global economic slow down. In a global village, no country is immune from the universal economic downturn which is already underway. Allan Greenspan, who for more than ten years controlled the e world’s economy as the Chairman of the US Federal Reserve Bank was on CNN in December to warn us that the global economy will shrink in 2019. AN Urhobo folklore relates the story of how the legendary tortoise (he is always invariably involved in mischievous stories in our folklore) had an amorous relationship with a married woman and was caught red-handed. He was beaten to pulp, and tied to a stick in the village square. The day was a market day, and the women going to the market at dawn, passing through the village square, rained abuses on tortoise. They spat on him and even threw sand on him as a final act of humiliation. Tortoise was finished.
