busIt was a narrow escape for all the 18 passengers of a commercial Hiace bus as the driver lost control when he rammed into a big pothole on the Badagry-Mile 2expressway in Lagos, on Thursday.

One of the victims, Mrs Mariochukwu Dare, said they all boarded the vehicle at Badagry round-about coming to Iyana-Iba\Mile 2 when the accident happened around 3.00pm

She said the driver was speeding when he suddenly rammed into the pothole around Agbara area of the expressway and as a result, could not control the steering.

She noted that the bus had to summersault severally after turning back towards where they were coming from before it finally halted with all it tyres facing up.

She said some of them sustained injuries in the process.

According to her, all was like watching a film because all they could hear was a loud bang and then they began to roll inside the bus until it finally halted several metres away.

“I sat by the side of one of the windows, through where I and some others came out, while the rest, I think, came out through the booth which had already flung open in the process,” she added. “That we all escaped was a miracle, indeed.”

Mrs Dare, who said she went to Badagry market to buy coconut for extraction into oil, said none of them (passengers) knew how both the driver and his conductor escaped and disappeared till she left at the scene to continue with her journey.
