Anambra recorded over 2million registered voters as at May 2018 ―Obiano’s aide

INEC, VotersTHE Special Adviser to the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, on Special Duties and Continuous Voter Registration, Dr. Amaka Akaudo, as revealed that the state has recorded over two million registered voters as at the end of May this year.

The Special Adviser made the call during a Press conference in her office at the Government House Awka, the Anambra state capital.

Akaudo, who regretted that many PVCs are yet to be collected by the owners from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office, asking such people to visit INEC office in their Local Government Areas to collect them, as according to her, without the PVCs an individual is void of political power and right to exercise his franchise during elections.

Dr. Akaudo harped on the need for the unregistered eligible voters in the state to endeavour to register in this second quarter of the registration exercise which ends this week Friday, saying that though the exercise has four quarters, it is advisable for the people to register in this second quarter in order to be able to collect their PVCs before the forthcoming elections, as those that will register in the third and fourth quarters may get theirs after the elections.

Describing PVC as the only weapon with which Igbos would choose the leaders of their choice and make a name at the federal level, Dr. Akaudo emphasized the need for the masses especially Ndi Anambra to secure theirs in preparation for the 2019 general elections.

The Special Adviser said that her office as part of its responsibility of sensitizing the public on the importance and power of PVC has been liaising with stakeholders and community leaders to ensure that more eligible voters are registered, and called on Journalists to help in the voter education campaign using their various platforms.

She also used the opportunity to commend the state Governor Chief Willie Obiano for dimming it fit to create office for Voter education in his government, which she noted distinguishes the administration from others in the South East zone, and would help in making people of the state more involved in political affairs in the state and beyond.

Finally, she called upon the residents in the state to secure their permanent voter PVCs, in order to be eligible to vote in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
