Former Nigerian leading heptathlon athlete, Patience Itanyi will support a ban by the world athletics ruling body IAAF, on Nigeria to enable the country, put its athletics in proper shape.

Itanyi, was speaking against the background of a misappropriated $150,000 IAAF grant and other unwholesome activities that have bedeviled the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN since the June 13 Federations elections in Abuja.

“If a ban from IAAF will help us get our house in order so be it. The people don’t care about the athletes and the implications. It’s time things change for the best.

“The athletes have not been paid for Bahamas Relays and the officials felt comfortable sharing the money. It’s a shame.”

“There is so much going on with this federation,” said Itanyi.

More revelation came to light in the scandal rocking the AFN. An official disclosed that the AFN secretary-general was left untouched in the last re-posting of federations’ secretary-generals, conducted by sports ministry to cover up, after the said fund was allegedly shared.
