In what could be described a successful year for Uchemba who has been able to melt the hearts of his fans through comedy, the actor who became famous as a child star has been accused of fraud by an activist and a group of young Nigerians who claimed that he took $1000 dollars from them to register them as delegates for a United Nations conference.

It all started when a US-based activist named Edafe Okporo, shared a screenshot of a chat thread with the former child actor revealing information on how to register delegates to attend a UN Youth Assembly conference.

Here is what the chat said

Details contained in the leaked chat showed that someone believed to be Uchemba wrote to the victim saying: “I will need three things from you: passport data page, email address and registration fee ($1,000). After payment is confirmed, I will then send you a questionnaire for you to fill and send back.”

But Okporo who had received complaints from more people contacted the UN Youth Envoy, Jayathma Wickramanayake, an aide to the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres, who dissociated herself from the actor and stating that Uchemba was unknown to the organisation.

Wickramanayake said she was working on a message “to save young people from scams like these.” A statement from the UN Envoy also stated “It has been brought to my attention that organisations and individuals claim affiliation to my office and the United Nations, promising participation in meetings and conferences upon payment of a fee.

“Please note: The United Nations does not charge a fee at any stage for participating in meetings and conferences. The Office of the United Nations Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth does not have country or regional representatives.”

Meanwhile NET reached out to one of the aggrieved parties who revealed that they had transferred a total of $1900 to Uchemba for Visa Processing fee and an invitation letter to the United Nations Conference, while Uchemba, upon receiving payment, bailed out on them and stopped responding to their messages.

Uchemba will later release  a series of videos to clear the air. According to him, contrary to public knowledge, he does not work directly with the United Nations, but the deputy Nigerian rep you assembly not youth ambassador, while they only have an office in the United Nations building in New Jersey.
