Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi

OYO State governor and aspirant for ticket of Oyo South senatorial district, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has said he has no anointed candidate for the 2019 governorship ticket of the state.

He made the declaration yesterday in Abuja shortly after his screening ahead of the primary for the Senate fixed for October 3 by the party national working committee.

The governorship primary is expected to hold on 29 September.

TribuneOnline findings revealed that in the race for the All Progressives Congress, (APC), ticket in Oyo State are former Oyo State governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala, Project Director and Director at Integrated Energy Distribution And Marketing Limited, Dr Olusola Ayandele, legal luminary, Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), immediate past Minister of Communication, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu and former Commissioner for Health, Dr Owolabi Babalola.

Other aspirants are a Senior Partner and Head of the Technology Advisory Services and Markets of KPMG Professional Services in Nigeria, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Commissioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan and former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Adebayo Adelabu.

It has been alleged that Joseph Tegbe is the anointed choice of Senator Ajimobi for the exalted position.

But addressing newsmen, Governor Ajimobi said all the aspirants for the ticket are eminently qualified to succeed him. He also justified the APC Governors’ Forum preference for indirect primary as against direct option.

He said: ” I think we have opted for indirect but more importantly, we have so many people who are eminently qualified aspirants and for me, I have given them free hands, let them talk to all party members. And whoever among them, I am okay. There is none of them who is not eminently qualified.

I am not God, I don’t anoint. I have no anointed candidate.”

Meanwhile, Nasarawa states governor who is equally seeking for ticket of Nasarawa south senatorial district, Tanko Al Makura has justified his move to probe the administration of former governor of the state, Senator Adamu Abdullahi, 11 years after the latter left office.

He denied allegation of witch-hunt and claimed recent startling revelation has justified the need for a commission of inquiry he just inaugurated.

He said: ” You see, government is dynamic. Operation of government is also dynamic. Certain actions precipitate certain actions and as far as governance is concerned, the gestation period for a number of issues don’t come at the same time. Certain issues take a long time before they come up themselves, that is the case with the commission of enquiry I constituted yesterday.

Issues that were at stake, were issues that have taken many years to culminate and the need and necessity for investigation.”
