Sports philanthropist, Ekechi awards scholarship to ex Vasco skipper

Mother luck has smiled on former Captain of defunct Vasco Da Gama Football Club of Enugu, Charles Ohaka as he has landed a scholarship to proceed to the National Institute for Sports, N.I.S. in Surulere, Lagos, for a Basic Coaching Course.

The scholarship is coming from a  sports philanthropist and publisher of the Sunrise Newspaper, Dr. T.O.E Ekechi.

The scholarship came to the footballer on the occasion of the final of the football  competition, Oke Nze Tobias Ekechi Imerienwe/Upe Unity Cup, in which Ohaka featured for Umunakara. He was also given the oldest player award by Dr. Ekechi,.donor of the cup and sponsor of the competition.

The 1st edition of the Oke Nze Tobias Ekechi Imerienwe/Upe Unity Cup, which has a redeemable prize of N1.5 million, was won by Amafor team while the Umuoye team who won the 2nd edition, also clinched the 3rd edition which took place from November 19 to Dec 31, 2017.

The former Vasco skipper, famous for dismantling the most formidable defence, also played for Iwuanyanwu Nationale, now Heartland FC, Owerri. He was invited to Flying Eagles’ camp by Clemens Westerhof.
