AWKA—A middle-aged woman  on Monday  night sustained severe burns following kerosene explosion that engulfed her apartment at Awada-Obosi in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State.

The explosion completely razed down an eight room service quarters of the apartment, located at No. 7 Dike Ezeagu street in Ugwuagba area of Awada.

It was gathered that the victim, Mrs. Gift Oroke, was preparing dinner at about 10pm, when her stove exploded because of alleged adulterated kerosene.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the victim was taken to St. Martins Hospital, Ugwuagba Obosi for medical attention.

“The scene was visited by Police detectives attached to Awada Division and the victim was taken to St. Martins Hospital. Sample of the kerosene was obtained for analysis and the case is under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident,” the PPRO said.

He advised members of the public to always take necessary precautions when using kerosene and other combustible substances in order to prevent such ugly incidents.
